Scott AFB is a global mobility and transportation hub for the DoD. The base is home to several command and control elements that represent logistics for the United States military in air, over land and across the sea in a joint environment that brings together all branches and all service members, alike!
Scott AFB is home to some of the nation’s most important organizations–including U.S. Transportation Command, Air Mobility Command, the 618th Air and Space Operations Center (Tanker Airlift Control Center), and Air Force Network Integration Center, which are just a few of the 30 tenant units stationed here. It’s also one of four bases in the Air Force to host both a Reserve unit, the 932nd Airlift Wing, and an Air National Guard unit, the 126th Air Refueling Wing.
Location
The base is located in southwestern Illinois. It is approximately 20 miles east of St. Louis near historic Belleville, Ill. The surrounding communities offer the best of Midwestern living with the excitement of a large metropolitan area just across the mighty Mississippi River.
History
The history of Scott Air Force Base dates back to World War I, when 624 acres of land became a new airfield near Belleville, Illinois. Scott Air Force Base is the only Air Force base in the United States named after an enlisted airman. After Corporal Frank S. Scott’s death in 1917, the government announced the base would be named after Corporal Scott.
