Dobbins Air Reserve Base is a United States air reserve base located in Marietta, Georgia. It is the largest multi-service reserve training base in the world.
The 94th Airlift Wing is the host unit at Dobbins ARB supporting all agencies and tenants at Dobbins Air Reserve Base. It is organized into a headquarters element, three groups, and a medical element containing 11 Squadrons and 4 Flights (1,800 personnel).
Location
Dobbins Air Reserve Base is located in Marietta, Georgia which is about 20 miles from Atlanta.
History
Dobbins ARB was built in 1943 and was originally called Marietta Army Airfield. In 1950, the named changed to Dobbins Air Force Base to honor Capt. Charles Dobbins, a pilot from Marietta. Captain Dobbins was killed during World War II when his C-47 aircraft was shot down over the Mediterranean Sea. In June 1992, the name was changed to Dobbins Air Reserve Base.
Mission
The mission of the 94th Airlift Wing is to provide highly trained Citizen Airmen who execute versatile and reliable C-130 operations. To accomplish this, the wing recruits, organizes and trains Air Force Reservists for active duty in time of war, national emergency or contingency tasking.
Population Served
As of 2007, the population consists of nearly 2,500 Air Force reservists and civilians assigned to the 94th AW and 22nd Air Force combined. More than 2,000 Navy, Marine Corps and Army reservists are also stationed at the base.
Now, Dobbins ARB supports more than 10,000 guardsmen and reservists from the Air Force, Army, Navy and Marines.
Base Transportation
Dobbins ARB does not have any type of base transportation. Reserve members are dependent on their own transportation, rental car, or taxi. If transportation is necessary, you can dispatch a vehicle for official business by contacting Transportation at 678-655-3667.
