Location
Bamberg is located in the center of Germany, approximately 30 miles north of Nuernberg and 126 miles east of Frankfurt. The U.S. Army Garrison Bamberg is on Warner Barracks, located on the east side of Bamberg. USAG Bamberg’s base operator is 011-49-711-680-113 or DSN is 314-430-1110.
History
The location of Warner Barracks has been occupied by American forces since the end of World War II. The current complex was renamed in 1950, in honor of CPL Henry Warner. Warner was killed in action in 1944, after his heroic anti-tank actions in Dom Budgenbach, Belgium. In 1991, the Bamberg military community became the USAG Bamberg, under the 99th Area Support Group in Nuernberg, and in 1993, joined the 98th Area Support Group.
Mission
USAG Bamberg provides management of Army installations operations that support readiness and mission execution. Bamberg provides equitable services and facilities, optimize resources, sustain the environment and enhances “Leading Change for Installation Excellence.”
Base Transportation
Transportation in the area is excellent! Getting around Bamberg is a breeze and the Germans run right on schedule. Taxi cabs are plentiful and there are two bus lines that run past post. Conveniently located downtown is the Banhof, the German train station. Most representatives do speak a little English. There are also shuttle buses that can take you to the Frankfurt International Airport.
A new addition to the installation is the On-Post Shuttle Service. The shuttle runs Monday-Friday 0710-1740, every 40 minutes. A shuttle stop is designated by a yellow and green capital H within a circle. There is a shuttle schedule available at every stop. Reminder, scheduled times and places may change due to construction and holidays.

Moving to Germany can be an interesting but stressful experience. In order to make your transition easier please request a sponsor as soon as you receive your Orders.
The Sponsorship Program Provides information to make newcomers welcome, comfortable and aware of the base and surrounding facilities. Your sponsor will communicate with you by mail, e-mail or phone. Sponsors can arrange temporary living quarters, establish a post office box, assist in finding a house and provide information on special needs. Their goal is to make your life as stress free as possible. Deciding what to ship is usually the hardest part of moving. Your hold baggage should consist of things needed immediately. These are usually clothes, uniforms, towels and bedding. However, 90% of the relocating families do not choose to have their hold baggage delivered until they move into their house. Temporary quarters usually provide for your basic needs. If you do not hear from your sponsor within a reasonable time frame, take the initiative and e-mail or call the sponsor at the duty station.
Temporary Quarters
Single soldiers and geographic bachelors seeking on-base quarters are issued billet space by the Single Soldier Quality of Life (SSQL) NCO in their unit. Soldiers with rank E-6 and below go straight to the barracks in their unit. E-7 and above will stay in the Bamberg Inn (or other temporary lodging as assigned) until permanent quarters become available either in the BOQ or off-post.
Married soldiers traveling with deferred travel for family members will be housed at the unit or the Bamberg Inn (again, based on rank), until temporary or permanent housing becomes available. Married soldiers with concurrent family travel will be housed at the Bamberg Inn, regardless of rank, until temporary or permanent housing becomes available.

The Relocation Readiness Program assists community members with pre and post move needs.
