Biggs Army Airfield is a military airport and is home of the United States Army 1st Armored Division
Location
Biggs AAF is located at Fort Bliss in El Paso, El Paso County, Texas.
History
The airfield was previously Biggs Air Force Base between 1947 and 1966. The U.S. Army began operations supporting Ft. Bliss and its mission in 1973.
Biggs Army Airfield (BIF) is an FAR Part 139 compliant airfield with a single 2.5 mile runway (10th longest in the US), low traffic volume, and a non-precision instrument approach. The airfield is 24-hour capable, is designated as a military power projection platform, lands and services all categories of military and civilian aircraft, up to and including Category E aircraft.
Mission
The mission of Biggs Army Airfield is to provide full airfield services with a 24 hour capability for power projection and installation support, for the aviation assets of the four military services, the Department of Justice, and other government flight operations.
