Location
NAS Oceana Dam Neck Annex is located on the Atlantic coast, five miles south of the downtown resort of Virginia Beach. Three military installations, NAS Oceana, Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek/Fort Story, and NAS Oceana Dam Neck Annex, are located in Virginia Beach. The Hampton Roads area is considered to be a military town.
History
The Dam Neck site is located on Virginia’s Atlantic shore near where the first Jamestown settlers landed and where the infamous Blackbeard and other pirates were said to have buried treasures. This area is also where battles of the Revolutionary War were fought, where Blue and Gray clashed during the Civil War, and where German submarines sank American shipping vessels within yards of the beach during World War II.

Population Served
NAS Oceana, Dam Neck Annex is host to 12 tenant commands. Over 5,600 instructors, students, and support personnel live or work at Dam Neck. Each year, over 17,000 students graduate from one of over 200 courses of instruction.

Congratulations on your assignment to Naval Air Station Oceana, Virginia Beach, Virginia. We would like to welcome you aboard. If you have not been assigned a sponsor, contact your new command to request a sponsor be assigned. Once your sponsor is assigned, be sure to ask about your command’s specific check-in policy. This is especially important if you will be checking in while your new command is deployed. Remember to ask your sponsor about forwarding your mail while in route or simply ask your local Post Office for other options, in regards to holding and forwarding your mail.
Students and permanent staff must stop at the Quarterdeck, located in Building 127 (Taylor Hall) at 1912 Regulus Avenue, Virginia Beach, VA 23461. The station Junior Officer of the Day (JOOD) will endorse your orders. The quarterdeck is manned 24-hours a day and can be reached at 757-492-6234.
Temporary Quarters
There are three Navy Lodges in the Hampton Roads area: Norfolk, Little Creek/Fort Story and Dam Neck. Please call 1-800-NavyInn in advance to make reservations. Service members also have the option of lodging at the Hampton Roads Regional Gateway Inn, previously known as (BEQ and BOQ). Service members on PCS orders have priority for reservations. Family members are allowed to stay in quarters with the service member. Please call 1-877-ZUMWALT (986-9258), or 757-445-7800 to speak to a reservation staff member.
Relocation Assistance
The Fleet and Family Support Center offers one-on-one consultations providing information about both military and community resources such as schools, housing, employment, and recreation. Other services include local Welcome Aboard Packets and the Lending Locker. The Lending Locker provides short-term loaner household items such as dish packs, tri-fold mattresses, pack n play, tables and chairs to personnel on PCS orders. Critical Installation Information
Effective July 1, 2007, children riding in motor vehicles will be required to be properly restrained in a booster seat until they reach eight years of age. Additionally, the new law requires rear-facing child seats be placed only in the back seat of a vehicle. If the vehicle does not have a back seat, the device may be placed in the front passenger seat, provided the airbag has been deactivated, or there is no airbag equipment.
Virginia drivers younger than 18 years of age may not operate a motor vehicle in Virginia while using a cellular telephone or other wireless communications devices. The new law prohibits the use of cell phones, even if they are considered to be hands-free. It also prohibits text-messaging while driving.
